The Revealing, Secret Diaries of a Not-So-Secret Foodie

About

This coming March, I will have been at home for three years.  What a blast it is!  The time is flying by and I am now feeling the need to do something that is all my own.  I have decided this will be it:  suebthefoodie.com.   I am a true believer in finding your passions and doing what makes you happy.  For everyone, it is something different.  Food and talking: These are two things that I absolutely love to do.  For me, getting my family around the table and enjoying the conversations that ensue is a real passion.  When you share a meal with someone, you really get to know them.  For me, food not only feeds your body; it nourishes your soul.   At home, I am always trying new recipes and testing them out on all my adventurous boys.  At times, I enjoy great success and at others dismal failure, however, trying them out together, as a family, always leads to a great conversation and sometimes some really good laughs.  “Ketchup-on-the-side”, is always available in my kitchen.

In my kitchen, I also have the keeper box.  This is the special wooden box that contains our family’s recipes that have qualified for the “keeper status”.  The keeper box in not secret, but there for anyone to try.  Even my husband, an enjoyer of good food, a loyal taster, but not a cook (yet!), has ventured in there to pull out his favorites to try.  My family frequently calls me to get an old family recipe, as I have been the food historian of our family, writing down all the recipes we’ve been making for years.  One of my favorite things to do is deliver a sample of a “keeper” to a neighbor, friend, or family member and get their reaction.  What a sense of accomplishment I feel when some one calls me out of the blue for a recipe or while, in the middle of attempting a recipe for the first time, rings me with a question or tells me of their success.  Another lover of food is born.  And another person you can start talking to food about.  Presto, yet another friend is made.

I am not sure what form this blog will take.  Maybe it will be a food blog.   Maybe it will be a running tale of “Life with All My Boys”.  Maybe it will be combination of both.  I know that my husband hopes it will be a place where the “secret ingredients” of his all time favorite foods are highlighted in red.  However, my hope is that it will start lots of conversations, around lots of dinner tables and get lots of families, friends and neighbors talking!  I would love to be like Gusteau in a favorite movie of mine, “Ratatouille”, convincing one Remy at a time that, “anyone can cook”, however, my real goal is to show how much fun it can be gathering your family around a table for a meal.  So here it goes…

  1. Can’t wait to start filling my keeper box– keepers only this time! I’m excited to see you get this started!

  2. Sue, I thought you were my secret foodie but I do realize that it ended when you and the MR. bought that little blue house. Until then we (your dad and I) were the taste testers and inhalers of all your new food ideas. I love hitting your refrigerator for all your wonderful left overs and now I know there’ll be even more as you cook to keep your blog interesting and clamoring for more. What a great way to fulfull your talents of motherhood, cooking and of course writing. We all come to you when we need an editor.
